GRANDMA SUSIE'S SOFT PIES 
2 c. whole milk (half and half)
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
3 eggs (separated)
2 tbsp. butter

Mix dry ingredients and add milk. Cook until begins to thicken. Remove from heat add beaten egg yolk and butter. Return to heat. Cook until thick. Add vanilla.

Pour into baked pie shell (9 inch) top with meringue made from 3 egg whites.

MERINGUE:

3 egg whites
6 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt

Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time, add salt.

For coconut pie add 1 cup coconut and sprinkle some on top of meringue.
