SOAP
1 can lye
1 qt. water
1/2 c. ammonia
2 1/2 qts. grease, melted (or 6 lbs.)
4 tbsp. Borax

Dissolve the lye in 1 quart water. Stir until dissolved, then let set until lukewarm. (The lye does the heating.) Put melted grease in lye solution, stirring constantly. Add 1/2 cup ammonia and 4 tablespoons borax. Stir until thick and pour into a box or pan lined with a damp cloth. When cool enough, cut into bars and let set 3 or 4 days. Lysol may be added if you wish to make disinfectant soap, use 1 teaspoon. This soap is white. It is said to float and will not hurt your hands.

Note: There have been some requests for making soap for Bible Schools and other institutions. In Brazil many people still save grease and fat scraps for making soap at home.
