HOLIDAY BELL COOKIES
3/4 c. butter
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. baking powder
Red or green colored sugar
Peanut M & M's (red and green)

In a bowl mix butter with an electric mixer until soft. Add flour, the sugar, egg yolk, vanilla and baking powder. Beat until combined. Shape dough into two 6 inch rolls. Roll each dough roll in red or green sugar to coat surface. Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap. Chill dough for 2 to 24 hours.

Cut dough into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Place a M & M on the bottom half of each slice for the bell clapper. Let dough slices stand for 1-2 minutes to soften.

Fold sides of each slice. Pinch in sides to resemble bell shape. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.

 Lisa (Ohio) says:
I have made these before and they are ADORABLE! I used the Slice N' Bake. Roll the entire roll in sugar and then slice. As an extra - when the cookies come out of the oven and are still HOT, take a McDonalds straw and place one hole in the top of the cookie. Once cookie is cooled, take red or green ribbon and thread a jingle bell on it and tie onto cookie. Don't forget the M & M. Happy baking!
