SENATE NAVY BEAN SOUP 
2 lbs. Navy beans
1 med. onion, chopped & sauteed in butter until lightly browned
1 1/2 lbs. smoked ham hocks

Wash beans and put in pot with 4 quarts of water. Add onion and ham hocks and simmer slowly for about 3 hours. When ready to serve, taste and correct seasoning (may or may not need salt.) Add black pepper. Serves 8.
