SCONES 
3 3/4 c. all purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/4 c. milk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

1. Sift flour, sugar, cream of tartar and salt together.

2. Cut butter into flour mixture.

3. Dissolve the baking soda in the milk, stir into flour mixture and mix into a smooth dough.

4. Knead lightly on floured board and form into a round cake 1 1/2" thick. Place on buttered baking tin and cut cross wise in 10 or 12 wedges to half its depth (3/4").

5. Bake in a hot oven, 400 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

6. When half way through, brush top with milk.
