IRISH SODA BREAD 
4 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. caraway seeds
1/4 c. butter
2 c. raisins (dark or light)
1 egg, unbeaten
1 egg yolk
1 1/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda

Grease 2 quart casserole. Sift together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir in caraway seeds. Cut in butter until like coarse cornmeal. Stir in raisins. Combine buttermilk, egg and soda. Stir into flour mixture until just moistened. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Shape into ball. Place in casserole. With sharp knife make 4 inch cross 1/4 inch deep. Brush on egg, beaten. Bake 1 hour plus 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pan.
