DATE SQUARES 
3 c. oats
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. diced dates
1/2 c. oil
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. milk or water
2 c. water

Combine oats, flour and salt. Add oil and mix as for pie crust. Add vanilla and milk; mix well. Pat thin layer on bottom of 10 x 12 inch pan. Cover with date filling (3 cups of diced dates cooked in 2 cups of water until dates are soft and water is evaporated). Use last half of crust to cover date filling. Press down. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Cut into squares and cool before removing from pan.
