APPLE SQUARES | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar 1 c. lard or Crisco Cut with a fork to blend. Then add 1 egg yolk in a cup and fill with milk to make 2/3 cup. Add to above and mix well. Roll into a ball, cut in half. Roll half to fit jelly roll pan. Cover dough with a couple handfuls of cornflakes crushed. Peel and slice 8 to 10 apples (don't skimp). Place on top of cornflakes. Sprinkle 1 cup sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon cinnamon over apples. Roll other half of dough and cover apples. Whip egg whites until frothy. Spread over dough and bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour. Make a powdered sugar and milk glaze and drizzle over the top. |
