DATE FILLED PINWHEELS 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter; add sugar gradually; beat in egg. Blend in sifted dry ingredients. Chill. Make Date Filling.

DATE FILLING:

3/4 c. cut dates
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. sugar
1/3 c. finely chopped nuts

Cook dates in water until soft; add sugar; cook until thickened; stir; add nuts; cool. Divide dough into thirds; roll each piece on floured surface into a rectangle 11 by 7 inches; spread with 1/3 of the filling. Roll as for a jelly roll starting at narrow edge; wrap in waxed paper; chill. Cut into thin slices; place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees about 12 minutes. Makes about 9 dozen.
