3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening, softened
1 egg
1/2 c. milk

Mix sugar, shortening and egg together. Stir in 1/2 cup milk.

1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Sift together, then stir in first mixture and top with Streusel mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes in 9 inch square pan. Serves 9.

STREUSEL TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tbsp. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. nuts (optional)

Spread half batter in pan. Sprinkle half streusel mixture and then repeat.
