1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
2 c. candied cherries, halved
2 c. diced dates

Mix last 3 items with little flour. Mix shortening, sugar and eggs. Beat well. Stir in milk and flour sifted with dry ingredients. Stir in nuts, cherries, dates and chill 1 hour. Spoon on greased baking sheet and bake 8-10 minutes in 400 degree oven.
