GRANDMOTHER'S RYE BREAD 
3 c. warm water
2 pkg. yeast
3 tbsp. shortening
A little salt
2 tbsp. sugar or honey
3 c. rye flour

Mix warm water with yeast. Mix all ingredients well and let rise 1/2 hour. Add 5 cups white flour. Dough will be soft. Knead. Add a little more flour, if needed. Let rise 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves in 9x5x3 inch pans. Let rise again and bake. Should be double in bulk. Bake in 375 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
