GRANDMOTHER'S GINGER BREAD 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. lard
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 egg
1 c. baking molasses
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water

Cream sugar with lard. Add egg and mix well. Then add the baking molasses. Next add spices and salt. Stir in flour and add the hot water. Pour into a greased pan and bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
