SUGAR CUTOUT COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring (optional, if not used, add 1/2 tsp. more vanilla)
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Mix sugar and butter. Add egg and flavorings. Mix thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate 2-3 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Divide dough in half and roll out on lightly floured pastry sheet, very thin for crisp cookies. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 7-8 minutes or until golden brown. Frost if desired or sprinkle with colored crystals.
