GOLDEN BATTER (FISH OR
VEGETABLE)
 
1 1/4 c. flour (all-purpose)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dried basil leaves
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. milk
3 tbsp. vegetable oil or melted shortening

Combine flour, baking powder, salt and basil. Add egg, milk and vegetable oil, beat until smooth. Makes 3 cups batter. May be used for coating onion rings and other vegetables for French frying.
