SOFT GINGERSNAPS 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients. Chill 1 hour. Shape dough in balls and dip tops in granulated sugar. Bake at 350 degrees on a lightly greased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes or just until set. Remove from cookie sheet immediately.
