FLAKY CRUST PASTRY SQUARES 
6 to 8 lg. cooking apples
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
Dash of salt
Squeeze of lemon

DOUGH:

2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. shortening (Crisco or Spry)
1 tsp. salt
2 egg yolks, beaten plus milk to make 2/3 c. liquid

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut shortening into flour and salt. Add liquid. Mix well. Roll 1/2 of dough. Put in jelly roll pan. Sprinkle bottom dough with 1 cup finely crushed corn flakes. Roll out other 1/2 dough. Fill bottom with apple mixture. Cover with top crust. Seal edges. Make slits in top. Beat egg whites not too stiff and spread on top. Bake 30 minutes.
