FLAKY PASTRY | |
1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt 6 tbsp. cold butter, cut into sm. pieces 1/4 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. vegetable shortening 1 egg, lightly beaten In a large bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender or your fingertips. Work in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in the egg and gather the dough into a ball. Flatten the dough into a 6 inch disk, wrap well and refrigerate at least 30 minutes before rolling out. Roll the pastry into a 12 inch circle. Fit loosely into a 10 inch glass pie dish. Pour pie filling into pie shell and bake approximately 45 minutes. |
