CHOCOLATE TOFFEE BARS 
2 c. flour
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. (6 oz. pkg.) chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Sift flour and measure. Cream sugar, butter, shortening, egg and vanilla thoroughly. Add flour to creamed mixture. Mix well. Spread in ungreased 10"x15" jelly roll pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate bits. Return to 350 degree oven and bake 2 minutes more. Spread softened chocolate bits evenly over the top. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut into bars while warm. Cool in pan.
