FRENCH APPLE COBBLER 
FILLING:

5 c. tart apples, peeled & sliced
3/4 c. white sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. softened butter

BATTER:

1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 egg, slightly beaten

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Make Filling: In medium bowl combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, vanilla, 1 tablespoon butter and 1/4 cup water. Mix all together well.

3. Turn into 9 x 9 x 1 3/4 inch pan. Dot with butter.

4. Make Batter: In medium bowl combine all batter ingredients; beat until smooth.

5. Drop batter in 9 portions on apples, spacing evenly. Batter will spread during baking.

6. Bake 35-40 minutes or until it feels done by using a fork and crust is a nice brown.

7. Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
