BEAN SOUP 
Green peas
Red beans
Pinto beans
Blackeye peas
Lima beans
Navy beans
Lentils
Barley

Add:

1 lg. chopped onion
1 lg. can tomatoes
2 slices carrots
1 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Juice of 1 lemon (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Wash beans thoroughly. Place in large kettle. Add 2 quarts water and ham or ham hocks. Bring to boil. Simmer slowly 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer 35-45 minutes. For a special taste, add 1 tablespoon vinegar to each serving.
