SESAME CHEESE STRAWS | |
1/2 lb. very sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded 1 (2 1/4 oz.) jar sesame seeds 1/2 c. butter, softened 1 1/4 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper Allow cheese to reach room temperature. Toast sesame seeds in a heavy skillet, stirring constantly over low heat about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Combine cheese, butter, flour, salt and cayenne pepper. Work dough until mixture is thoroughly blended. Add sesame seeds. Roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness; cut into 4 x 1/2 inch strips. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Place in an airtight container. They're better when aged a few days. They keep fresh for several weeks. Makes 5 dozen. |
