CHOCOLATE TOFFEE BARS 
1 c. of brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. regular flour, unsifted
1 c. chocolate bits
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar, butter, shortening, egg and vanilla thoroughly.

Spoon flour (not sifted) into dry measuring cup. Level off. Add flour to creamed mixture, mix well.

Spread in ungreased 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate bits. Return to oven two minutes more. Spread softened bits over the top, sprinkle with nuts, cut into bars while warm. Cool in pan. Four dozen cookies.
