CUT-OUT SUGAR COOKIES | |
1/2 c. butter 1 c. sugar 1 lg. egg 2 to 2 1/4 c. all purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. vanilla Cream together butter and sugar. Blend in egg. Sift together rest of ingredients. Divide dough in 2 parts. Chill 1-2 hours so it will be easy to handle. Roll dough, one part at a time, to 1/8 inch thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Keep together part of dough chilled until ready to roll. Transfer to cookie sheet and bake in preheated 375 degree oven 8-10 minutes. Frost, if desired with confectioners sugar water glaze. Makes approximately 2 dozen cut-out cookies. CONFECTIONER'S SUGAR-WATER GLAZE: Blend together 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar and 5-6 teaspoons water. Add food coloring if desired. Brush glaze over cookies while still warm. |
