OATMEAL HARVEST CAKE 
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. quick oats
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder

Pour boiling water over oats. Let stand 20 minutes. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add the oats and sifted flour with salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and baking soda. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes.

BROILED ICING:

6 tbsp. melted shortening
1/3 c. cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut
1 c. nuts

Pour on cake while still hot. Put under broiler until bubbly.
