SOURDOUGH CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. thick starter
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 c. milk
2 c. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. vanilla
3 sq. melted unsweetened chocolate
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Prepare starter night before.

Morning - cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Add well beaten eggs. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with starter and milk.

Pour into (greased and floured) two 8 inch pans or 1 large pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes for layers and 40 minutes pan.

BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING:

Melt 1/2 cup butter in pan until golden brown. Add 2 1/2 - 3 cups powdered sugar and milk to proper consistency to spread. Add vanilla to taste.
