1 c. water
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. Crisco
2 c. seeded raisins
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Boil together for 3 minutes the water, brown sugar, Crisco, raisins and spices. Let the mixture become thoroughly cold, then add the flour sifted with salt, baking soda, baking powder. Pour into cake pan and bake slowly 1 hour at 300 degrees or until done.
