These were amazing. It is getting closer to Christmas and my family doesn't have any sweets! I found this quick and easy recipe. Instead of rolling them into balls and then flattening them, I rolled the dough out on a floured surface and used cookie cutters. I added sprinkles before they went in the oven and they came out great!

These cookies were definitely light and fluffy, but weren't quite sweet enough for my family. The batter tasted sweet, but once we baked them off they came out of the oven without a lot of flavor, even with the sugar on top.

Hi Cookiefreak,

Make sure your vanilla isn't too old. Vanilla can lose flavor over time. Try adding a little extra.

You can also add rum, amaretto, lemon rind and many other flavors to these cookies as a variation. If your family prefers sweeter cookies, try adding a tablespoon of honey (the cookies will bake up more quickly).

A pinch more salt can also help things to seem sweeter. If you forgot the salt, they would taste as though they needed more sugar!

These cookies are wonderful!!! Looked for years for a recipe for sugar cookies like my grandma would make.. and this came the closest! It's a keeper! They are soft and light. I didnt do the glass dipped in sugar, but instead just sprinkled sugar and sprinkles on top and baked! Yum! Thanks for sharing!!!
