TREACLE SPONGE PUDDING 
2 oz. butter
1 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
Little milk

Cream together butter and sugar until cream color. Add egg and beat. Fold in flour in figure 8 movement. (This does not lose air.) Add milk as needed.

Grease glass dish. Put treacle (Tate & Lyle Golden Treacle best) in bottom of dish, add sponge mixture on top, cover with aluminum foil. Put into saucepan containing about 2" boiling water and simmer for 1 hour. Do not let water boil over top of glass dish and do not let simmering stop.
