UNCLE FRANK SICILIAN "S" COOKIES 
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 to 1 1/4 cups sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 cup Crisco (or shortening of your choice)
1/4 cup milk
1 tbsp. vanilla or almond extract
3 large or 4 small eggs

Optional:

confectioners' sugar
decoration sprinkles

1. In a bowl, mix all ingredients, except optional ingredients, mixing by hand until smooth.

2. Form into long, 1-inch thick string, cut into smaller pieces approximately 3-inches long, shape into an "S".

3. Bake at 350 - 400°F for 10 - 15 minutes, checking for doneness.

4. Cool and Frost.

FROSTING:

3/4 to 1 (1 lb.) confectioners' sugar
milk (adjust)
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar and milk (as needed) and vanilla until smooth. Frost top of cookie and, if desired, sprinkle with decoration sprinkles. Let air dry.

Thank you for posting this recipe. My mom died 5 years ago and I haven't had these since then. No one in my family ever wrote the recipe down, so I Googled Sicilian "S" cookies and there they were. I smiled the whole time making these and it brought back many memories. My Great Grandfather Luminato used to make these back in Ohio and now I can share them with my family.
