ROSE'S RAISIN COOKIES 
4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Sift together first seven ingredients. Add water to raisins and boil 5 minutes or until liquid is decreased to 1/2 cup. Cool. Cream shortening. Add sugar and blend well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add vanilla, nuts and cooled raisin mixture. Add sifted dry ingredients and blend well. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake in hot oven, 400 degrees, for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen.
