VEGETABLE SOUP 
2 lb. soup bone
2 tbsp. fat (lard)
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 qt. cold water
1 c. tomatoes
1 lg. onion
1/2 c. diced carrots
1/2 c. diced celery
1/2 c. diced potatoes

Heat fat and brown meat in it. Place meat, soup bone and seasoning in pot. Add water. Cover, cook until boiling. Then simmer 2 1/2 hours. Skim off excess fat. Add vegetables and cook until tender.
