BROWN SUGAR DROP COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs and milk. Blend in dry ingredients - cover and chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons, 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.

Use milk and add 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice or vinegar to sour. For holidays may add chopped dates and nuts.
