SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS 
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3 - 4 tbsp. butter

Mix all ingredients except butter. Shape into 1 inch balls. Brown. Add sweet and sour sauce.

SWEET & SOUR SAUCE:

1 c. hot water
1/2 c. raisins
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. catsup
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 bay leaf
8 peppercorns
1 tsp. ginger
Pinch salt

Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer 30 minutes. Stir in 1 tablespoon cornstarch blended with 1 tablespoon water. Cook until thickened.
