MOM'S SPICE COOKIES | |
3 Cups Sifted All Purpose Flour 2 tsp. Baking soda Pinch of Salt 2 tsp. Cinnamon 1 tsp. Ginger 1/4 tsp. Ground Cloves 1/2 cup Butter 1/2 cup Vegetable Shortening 1 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar 1 large egg, unbeaten 1 1/2 tbsp. Grated Orange Rind (1 Orange) 2 tbsp. Dark Karo 1 tbsp. Water Sift flour onto waxed paper before measuring. After measuring, resift twice with soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves and set aside. Cream together the butter and shortening, and then gradually add the sugar. Add egg, orange rind, dark corn syrup and water. Beat very thoroughly until fluffy light. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until well blended, and you no longer see flour. Chill dough about 2 hours after wrapping with plastic. Cut dough in half and roll out on floured board. Cut with cookie dough cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in pre-heated 375 oven for 9 minutes. Cool cookies on racks. GLAZE: Frost cooled cookies with glaze of 2 Tbsp. melted butter, 2 cups sifted Confectioners sugar, 1/4 tsp. vanilla and approximately 2-2 1/2 Tbsp. of milk. Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies. |
