STONE SOUP 
1 med. stone (3-4" in diameter) scrubbed clean
1 chicken
1 tbsp. salt
2 potatoes, peeled & diced
2 carrots, peeled & chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 med. onion, chopped
Other vegetables as desired (peas, lima beans, etc.)

According to the story: Use 6 quart kettle; add water to cover chicken and stone. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer 2 hours. Remove chicken, skin and bone; return meat to kettle and add remaining ingredients; heat to boiling and simmer until vegetables are tender. Remove stone, rinse and replace in the great outdoors. Serves 10 or more.

Busy Day Variation: Brown 1 pound hamburger, drain off fat. 5 cups water with 5 beef bouillon cubes. Follow rest of recipe as directed.
