ALMOND-APPLE CRUNCH 
1 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. almond paste
Soft, fine bread crumbs
6 tart apples, thinly sliced
Juice of 1 lemon
Pinch of salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground cloves
Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Combine the flour, 1 cup sugar, butter, and almond paste in a bowl and chill for 2 hour. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking dish and coat with bread crumbs. In a large bowl, mix the apples, the remaining 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, salt, and spices. Place the apple mixture in the baking dish, then crumble the almond paste mixture over the apples. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Serves 12.
