1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. peanut butter
Candy Kisses or Stars
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, soda, and salt. Cream together shortening, peanut butter, and sugars; add eggs, milk and vanilla; beat well. Blend in dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly. Shape by rounded teaspoons into balls. Roll in sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and place candy Kisses or Stars on top of each cookie pressing down so that cookie cracks around the edge. Return to oven for 2 to 5 minutes. Yield: about 3 dozen.
