DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 3/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 3 eggs, separated 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour 1/2 c. cocoa (regular type, dry) 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1 1/3 c. cold water Sea Foam Frosting Shadow Icing Cream shortening and 1 cup of the sugar until light. Add vanilla and egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with cold water, beating after each addition. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter; blend well. Bake in 2 greased and lightly floured 9 x 1 1/2 inch round baking pans at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. |
