BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES | |
4 qt. cucumbers, sliced thin, med. sized, not pared 6 med. white onions, sliced 1/3 c. canning salt 5 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. turmeric 1 1/2 tsp. celery seed 2 tbsp. mustard seed 3 c. vinegar Put cucumbers in a large kettle, add onions. Add salt, cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours; drain thoroughly. Combine remaining ingredients, pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to boiling. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 4 pints. |
