HEART SMART MOLASSES DATE BARS 
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. Bran Bud cereal
1/4 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. molasses
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. almond extract
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. rolled oats, uncooked
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. dates, chopped
Vegetable cooking spray
1 tbsp. powdered sugar

Melt butter in a medium saucepan (or skillet) over medium heat. Add cereal, stirring constantly, until completely coated. Remove from heat; add brown sugar, molasses, vanilla extract, almond extract, and egg, stirring until well blended. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder, and baking soda. Add cereal mixture and dates, stirring until well blended. Spread mixture into an 8 x 8 inch square pan that has been coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Let cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 15-20 bars.
