WHIRLIGIG COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. peanut butter
1 egg, unbeaten
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips

Cream shortening, the sugars and peanut butter together thoroughly. Add egg; beat until light and fluffy. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add to egg mixture and blend well. Roll dough into oblong shape 1/4 inch thick.

Melt chocolate pieces over hot boiling water. Cool slightly. Spread on rolled dough with spatula. Roll up like a jelly roll and chill. Slice 1/4 inch thick. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool on wire rack. Yield about 3 dozen cookies.
