WIENER "BATTER PUPS" | |
1/2 c. enriched self-rising cornmeal 1/2 c. enriched self-rising flour 1/2 tsp. onion salt 1 tsp. caraway seeds 1 egg, beaten 1 tbsp. melted shortening or oil 1/3 to 1/2 c. milk 10 wieners, room temp. Melted fat or oil for frying Preheat oil to 375 degrees. Combine cornmeal, flour and seasonings. Blend egg, 1/4 cup milk and 1 tablespoon oil. Add liquids to dry ingredients and mix. Add remaining milk if necessary to form a medium thick batter. Dip wieners into batter and coat carefully. Drop batter pups into hot oil using tongs or skewers. Fry in deep hot fat (375 degrees) until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper and serve hot. Makes 10 pups.
