CANDIED APPLE DESSERT 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. cinnamon candies (like Red Hots)
1 1/2 c. water
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg + milk to equal 2/3 c.
1 tbsp. soft butter
3 apples

Place first 3 ingredients on stove; let come to a boil, simmer 5 minutes to melt candies. Sift together in bowl flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and shortening. Place egg in cup, add milk and mix (to make 2/3 cup). Mix as for pie crust. Add milk and egg mixture gradually. Roll dough into 12 x 12 inch square pan. Spread with butter. Place apples on dough; roll as for jelly roll and slice in 8 pieces, 1 1/2 inch thick. Place in 8 x 8 inch square pan. Add all syrup but 3/4 cup. Bake 30 minutes at 400 degrees. Remove from oven, add rest of syrup and bake 20 minutes longer. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
