MULLED CIDER (OR WINE) 
1 gal. cider
1/2 lb. brown sugar
1 lemon
1 orange
1 c. raisins
2 sticks cinnamon
3 to 4 whole cloves

In a saucepan, heat the sugar with the juice and slivered rinds from the orange and the lemon, until the mixture becomes syrupy. Bring the cider to heat with raisins, cinnamon sticks and cloves and add the sugar syrup. It is important not to substitute ground cinnamon or cloves, because that will make a cloudy brew.
