DATE CAKE 
1 c. dates, stoned & chopped
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water (let cool)
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 c. nuts
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or other shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix together and bake in 3 cake layer pans at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool and frost with icing.

DATE NUT CAKE ICING:

1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook to soft ball stage and add 1 cup each of coconut, dates and nuts. Spread on cooled layers and frost.
