CANDIED APPLES 
10-15 apples
3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
2/3 c. water
1 tsp. lemon juice
15 cloves
1-2 tsp. red food coloring

Stick skewers into apples. Combine rest in heavy saucepan. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add coloring. Boil without stirring to hard crack. Remove from heat, skim out cloves. Coat apples and place on greased cookie sheet. Serve same day.
