APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 tsp. cinnamon
Few drops red coloring
3 tbsp. butter
6 apples
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

Boil together sugar, water, nutmeg, cinnamon, food coloring and butter. Core and peel apples, leaving apples whole. Boil apples partly done in syrup. Mix together flour, baking powder, shortening, and milk in large mixing bowl. Roll out and cut into 6 equal squares. Place apple in center of pastry square and seal up around apple. Place in 9 x 13 inch pan. Pour boiled syrup over and bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.
