TEXAS BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. pinto beans
1 meaty ham bone
6 clove garlic (or more if you choose)
2 lg. onions, sliced thin or chopped
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper

Put all ingredients in a pot. After you wash beans thoroughly. Cover with water to top of ham bone. Bring water to boil and then reduce to simmer for 3-4 hours until beans are tender. Add salt to taste at the end since ham is slightly salty.
