APPLE SQUARES 
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1 c. butter or shortening
1/2 c. milk, approximately

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together flour, salt and sugar. Cut in butter a for pie crust. Beat egg yolks in a cup, add enough milk to make 2/3 full, add to pastry dough all at once. Mix just until moistened. Divide dough in half. Roll out first 1/2 to fit a 10 x 15 inch pan.

FILLING:

1 1/2 c. crumbled corn flakes
7 or 8 sliced apples
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/4 c. sugar

Sprinkle crumbled corn flakes over bottom crust. Core, peel and slice apples, place evenly over bottom crust. Mix together cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar; sprinkle over apples. Roll out second crust and place over top of apples. Seal edges. Beat egg whites until frothy, brush on top crust. Cut small slits in crust. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and apples are done.

GLAZE:

1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. milk (approximately)
